Merit Scholarships

MERIT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year, Fenster School is pleased to announce several merit scholarship awards for promising students, including the Fenster Family Scholarship Award and the Fenster School Legacy Scholarship Award.

The Fenster Family Scholarship Award
The Fenster Family Scholarship Awards are given to exceptional students who exemplify the School’s core values as evidenced by a personal essay and teacher recommendations.

Essay Requirement: The entire Fenster program is based on the five essential core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, compassion, and health and safety. Please write a 300-500 word essay that explains what one of these core values means to you and give an example of a time in your life when you have “lived” this value.

The Fenster School Legacy Scholarship Award
The Fenster School Legacy Scholarship Awards are given to exceptional students who are related to a Fenster School graduate and who embody the school motto – Vincit Qui Se Vincit – she/he conquers who conquers herself/himself as evidenced by a personal essay and teacher recommendations. In addition to being a legacy, candidates for this award must demonstrate a desire to continue the Fenster tradition.

Essay Requirement: In a 300-500 word essay, please explain what the Fenster School motto means to you and give an example of an instance in your life that illustrates this.

Recipients may receive up to $25,000 to assist in covering the School’s comprehensive fee.

All scholars are required to remain in good academic and behavioral standing as well as be positive, contributing members of the School community. As long as a student meets the requirements, the scholarship will continue each year she/he attends Fenster School. To apply for any of the Fenster School Merit Scholarships Awards, all candidates must complete the application for admission, in addition to submitting the required essay. Current Fenster students are ineligible to apply. The Admission Committee will review all applicants to determine a small pool of finalists, from which the winners will be selected by a scholarship committee.

If appropriate, applicants are encouraged to complete the regular financial aid application process as well, so that need-based awards can be determined. Unlike merit awards, need-based financial aid is awarded solely on the basis of documented financial need.
