Earning College Credit

Fenster School, in collaboration with Pima Community College, offers dual enrollment classes on campus for college credit.  College classes at Fenster, an independent boarding and day school, are taught by faculty members who are college certified to teach particular courses.  Students will earn .5 high school credits for every college semester successfully completed and, depending on the college class, 3 or 4 college units.  Junior and senior applications are processed and assessed by the college to determine placement.  Based on the assessment, qualifying students can enroll in Writing 100, 101, and must complete 101 to enroll in 102.  These writing classes fulfill senior English requirements.  Students may also enroll in US History 141/142, and POS (Political Science), meeting both their United States History and Government requirements.  Students can also enroll in Cultural Geography 103 or Physical Geography 101/102 (4 college units of advance science).

Students earning an A, B, or C in any of the dual enrollment classes may have the earned college credits apply towards their college/university graduation requirements. Grades earned in college courses for high school students are weighted and are factored into a student’s overall GPA.

Qualified students earn an average of 12 to 15 credits with some students earning over 21 credits during their junior and senior years.  Parental permission is required before students can enroll in a college class.  All Fenster college course offerings are subject to change based on enrollment.
