In 1941, exhibiting the spirit of true pioneers and searching for a more agreeable climate in which to live and work, George and Kitty Fenster packed up their family and trekked west from New York City. The Fenster family was immediately taken by the “purple mountain majesty” of the Santa
C
atalina Mountains north of Tucson and the splendor of the Sonoran Desert which provided them with a feeling of peace, contentment, and quietude. In this setting Fenster School was conceived.
From its very beginning in a small adobe home with eight students, the School has offered the opportunity for academic and personal growth. Building on the Fensters’ belief that some students thrive in a small, structured, personalized learning environment, today’s program, with its intentionally designed daily schedule, small classes, and attentive adult mentors, provides a setting that encourages student success.
